Ski Day in Turnagain
A week or so ago Woodsen had added a Ski day to the calendar after hearing that Turnagain had gotten a fresh layer of snow. Little did we know how well we had picked the day! Warm weather, the sun, very little wind, (in fact we could have used a bit more to cool us down), very few people, and of course a beautiful layer of fresh powder greeted us.
I started skiing after Woodsen and I got married and of course, since then we haven’t had much in terms of snow. Needless to say, I’m still learning and for a beginner, I couldn’t have asked for a better day. We skied from the car, the weather was mild, I didn’t have to cross any creeks risking getting my skins wet, the terrain was gentle, and getting through the alders on the way down wasn’t too bad either!
This is what Skiing looks like when you’re five months pregnant. A little awkward but it works and it is well worth it!
Bluebird day!
We have a tradition of drinking hot tea and eating a snack (usually sausage, cheese and crackers ) when we get to the top of our first run. A tradition I hope we never part with 🙂
I can hear it just begging to have someone ski down it
So many reasons to love Alaska! Free skiing just an hour drive out of Anchorage on the Seward Highway is definitely one of them!
