Goose Bay On Skates
March 9th 2016.
On the way back from flying the Iditarod we saw what we thought would be pretty good ice for Ice skating at Goose Bay.
Last summer the mud flats at Goose Bay had provided a great off airport landing spot when I was receiving flight instruction in the Super cub for my tail wheel rating. Now it was transformed to a solid sheet of perfect ice and we were excited to make the most of the conditions.
Our private ice skating rink for the day. What a view too!
Woodsen proving that the ice was so good you really didn’t even need ice skates.
Due in 20 days.. but who’s counting. This baby is going to come out bouncing, ready to go skating and flying 🙂
Woodsen took advantage of the great conditions and practiced some powered ground loops, a maneuver that can help you stop since you don’t have any breaks when flying straight skis.
We stayed to enjoy another beautiful Alaskan sunset.
More beautiful sunset views flying over Point Mackenzie on the way back to Anchorage.
Downtown Anchorage.
Calling it a wrap to another great adventure in Alaska.
